Lilo & Stitch (2002)

This film is a core favourite of mine. I’ve loved it since I was old enough to understand what a movie is, so designing a menu inspired by this very film was a no brainer.

I have already created two recipes to celebrate this early 2000s Disney classic, including my popular Stitch cake, but why stop there?

A movie that is this loved and this popular over two decades after its release is likely to stick around. Lilo & Stitch themed parties and movie nights are super popular, so I thought I’d create a graphic for my own Lilo & Stitch movie night menu.

Lilo & Stitch Movie Night Menu

Here is the menu in text form, in case you prefer to see it in another format than in an image:

As mentioned in the introduction, this menu is completely personalisable.

Particularly the pizza, which I feel is an important element to include. Not only is there pizza in the movie, but it’s a great movie night food option.

This entire menu can be altered and adapted to suit your dietary needs, too. Veggie, vegan, meat, gluten free, dairy free. You choose what works for you!

The rest of this post includes recipes and other tips to help you put together an unforgettable Lilo & Stitch movie night spread using this menu.

You can also find the downloadable version of this menu at the end of the post, should you want to print it out and display it!

Prologue

Now, you may well be looking at this menu thinking it’s pretty packed with rich and heavy food. Sure, it absolutely is. All of these foods are directly referenced in the movie, though. I would recommend adding some side salad to eat along with your pizza, or choosing one item from each section according to how you feel.

I like to say these things are the flavour of the day, meaning I make decisions regarding food based on how I’m feeling on the day. If you aren’t prepared to have a blow out movie night meal, you can condense this Lilo & Stitch movie night menu to suit your needs.

If you’re ready to go all in, then have at it!

Four triangle shaped peanut butter and jam sandwiches displayed on a small plate in front of two Stitch plushies, a jar of peanut butter and a jar of my homemade jam.

To start this feast, it was only right to choose a dish in honour of Pudge the Fish.

His peanut butter and jelly sandwich that Lilo makes for him in the film’s opening sequence  makes for a great starting point. Sweet and salty flavours together. Delicious.

These are mini (cut into smaller pieces) to leave room for the rest of the contents of this Lilo & Stitch inspired movie night menu. The type of bread, brands and flavours of peanut butter and jelly (or jam, for my fellow Brits) is all your prerogative.

If you’re like me and are into making your own jam, you can find a recipe for raspberry jam in my The Powerpuff Girls cupcakes post!

Of course, if you have an issue with peanut butter, by all means omit it. You could opt for the tuna sandwich that Nani suggests Lilo gives him. Scratch the itch that is your dark sense of humour, it’s good for you.

Act One

Next up is a movie night classic: pizza. This one is also completely adaptable to suit your requirements or tastes.

Nani brings Lilo some pizza after their argument, so this one feels like it’s loaded with love as well as cheese.

You can either get takeout pizza, buy your favourite one from the local supermarket, or make your own. Making your own pizza means you can make an event out of it before you put the movie on or even during a party!

Pre-made dough is for sure an option, but it’s even better when you make your own. Sauce, too! My Home Alone cheese pizza recipe is a great place to start, especially as the dough takes ten minutes to be ready to cook. That way you can choose the cheese and the toppings as well!

Act Two

Next up is shaved ice (or shave ice), just like the cones Lilo gets for herself and Stitch from Luki’s cart during their first proper day out together.

Hawaiian shave ice, known as Kakigōri, was brought to the islands by the Japanese and has remained a staple sweet treat since. The method for creating shaved ice is simple, even without a shaved ice maker!

Recipes like this double recipe in Sunset Magazine and this one by Nestle’s Carnation offer ways to make shaved ice at home. Many recipes use condensed milk, but you can also buy different syrups if preferred.

If you don’t have a shaved ice maker, a food processor will certainly do the job. I’ve provided a simple recipe for strawberry shaved ice as that is my guess as to what Lilo buys for herself and Stitch. Feel free to swap out the fruit for something else if strawberries aren’t your vibe. Watermelon or cherry could work to keep the colour on theme.

Shaved Ice Recipe

Serves: 2 (can be doubled, tripled etc for a larger yield)

Ingredients

Fruit puree (pre-bought syrup as alternative):

  • 300g frozen strawberries
  • Squeeze of lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp condensed milk

Shaved ice:

  • 2 – 3 cups ice cubes

Method

  1. Either using a hand blender or blender, puree the strawberries and lemon juice until it is relatively smooth. Add the condensed milk and blend together until a puree has formed. If preferred, you can put the puree through a sieve to remove any seeds.
  2. In a food processor or shaved ice maker, blitz the ice cubes until the ice resembles freshly fallen snow.
  3. Portion out the shaved ice in cold glasses, then pour the fruit puree over the top of each one. If using pre-bought syrup, pump the desired amount of syrup over the shaved ice in place of the puree. Top with fresh fruit if desired.
  4. Eat immediately once served.

“Too much sun” Mint Choc Chip Ice Cream

If you’re a fan of frozen treats, there is absolutely nothing stopping you from having both a shaved ice and a serving of mint choc chip ice cream.

This dish pays homage to my main man, the guy who is always sunburnt and always losing his cone of mint choc chip ice cream one way or another. Poor guy.

I feel him on the sunburnt front; I burn so easily in the sun that it’s turned into a running joke. Sun care is no joke, though, friends. Thankfully my best friend gave me SPF 100 sunscreen recently – something that isn’t even a thing in the U.K.! I will never burn again (we hope).

My knickerbocker glories inspired by Living.

You can absolutely buy the ice cream if you prefer, but I will say that homemade ice cream is unbeatable.

A no-churn recipe like the one in my Living inspired knickerbocker glories is just three ingredients (egg free) and hits the spot. It just needs to be made either the day before, or the morning before your Lilo & Stitch movie night.

Plenty of people don’t have access to an ice cream machine, so a no-churn recipe is ideal. A recipe for mint chocolate chip ice cream like this one on Chew Out Loud uses an ice cream machine if you have access to one and would prefer to use it. Follow my recipe below for a super easy no-churn option.

Waffle cones can be found in various supermarkets especially during the summer months. No need to make those from scratch!

Mint Choc Chip Ice Cream Recipe

Serves: 6 (can be doubled, tripled etc for a larger batch)

Ingredients

  • 600ml [21.25 oz] double [heavy] cream
  • 1 397g tin [about 14 oz] condensed milk
  • 1 – 2 tsp peppermint extract
  • 200g [7 oz] dark chocolate chips
  • Drop of green food colouring   optional
  • Waffle cones to serve

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cream and condensed milk until thick and frothy. This will only take a couple of minutes! You can gradually add the condensed milk and adjust to taste if preferred.
  2. Add the peppermint extract and green food colouring (if using) and whisk in briefly. Adjust the extract to taste, adding more if you like your ice cream really minty.
  3. Fold through the chocolate chips.
  4. Carefully pour the mixture into a freezer-safe container i.e a loaf tin, large cake tin or tub.
  5. Freeze for at least 4 – 5 hours, preferable overnight. As there are no soft-serve chemicals in a homemade ice cream, you’ll need to leave the frozen ice cream out for a few minutes to soften a little before serving!
  6. When ready to serve, warm an ice cream scoop under hot water, dry it off and use it to serve a generous scoop or two onto a waffle cone. Repeat for each serving.

Act Three

Yes, friends. It’s the very Lūʻau dessert cake that Nani serves Lilo & Stitch while working in a Lūʻau themed restaurant.

Now, I have an entire post dedicated to this particular element of my Lilo & Stitch movie night menu. My own recipe for this Lūʻau dessert cake makes a delicious chocolate cake with Swiss meringue buttercream, which you can find here.

If for any reason you’d prefer to switch out the Swiss meringue buttercream for standard American buttercream; 250g [8.75 oz] unsalted butter and 500g [3 ¼ cups + 3 tbsp] icing [confectioners] sugar should be plenty. Simply cream the two together and add any extract of your choice i.e. coconut and white food colouring if desired!

Bonus Features

Gotta stay hydrated during a movie night, friends.

The bonus features section of my Lilo & Stitch movie night menu is all about drinks to help wash down this feast of delight.

The Aloha pina colada mocktail is completely optional and is really just a mixture of pineapple juice and coconut water or milk. By all means add rum to it to make it a cocktail, if you are that way inclined (and are of the legal drinking age in your country).

Nani offers Cobra Bubbles lemonade when he first pays a visit to Nani and Lilo’s home. Feel free to pick up some from the supermarket if you have a favourite. I will say that homemade lemonade is top notch and very quick to make.

Recipes like this one on Love and Lemons mean you can whip some super refreshing lemonade yourself without faff. It includes a simple syrup to sweeten your lemonade, which I love. I’ve adapted the recipe which you can find below.

Homemade Lemonade Recipe

Serves: up to 5 (can be doubled, tripled etc for a larger yield)

Ingredients

Syrup:

  • 125ml [½ cup] water
  • 100g [½ cup] caster or granulated sugar

Lemonade:

  • Juice of 10 -12 lemons [1.5 cups of juice]
  • 725ml [3 cups] still or sparkling water
  • Ice to serve

Method

  1. Make the syrup first. Add the water and sugar to a saucepan over a medium heat. Stir over the heat until the sugar has completely dissolved.
  2. Remove the syrup from the heat and leave to cool while you prepare the lemonade.
  3. Squeeze the lemons so that the juice lands in a measuring jug or bowl.
  4. Pour the water into a large jug. Still or sparkling depending on whether you prefer a fizzy lemonade or not!
  5. Pour the lemon juice into the jug with the water and stir in. Add the now cooled syrup and stir in. Feel free to add the syrup gradually and adjust to taste.
  6. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve. Serve over ice for an extra cold beverage.

The last drink option in my Lilo & Stitch movie night menu is coffee. Lilo prepares a baby bottle full of coffee for Stitch, which is both hilarious and endearing at the same time. That scene is both the inspiration behind including coffee, as well as the name I gave it.

This one is just for the adults. As Mirabel explains to a kid in Disney’s Encanto: “coffee is for grown ups”.

It’s also for aliens, too, it would seem. Prepare your coffee however you prefer it. Baby bottle optional.

  1. […] I adapted the recipe using blackberries instead of blueberries and rather than using honey to sweeten it, I created the same syrup that I made for the lemonade in my Lilo & Stitch inspired menu. […]
