The Bake
Another bake that isn’t technically a bake, but hey, it’s summer. Who wants the oven on constantly? Especially if you’re whipping up numnums specifically for a birthday party or to cater for a movie night!
I certainly don’t want my oven on much when it’s the warmer seasons and I LOVE baking.
Like any ice cream recipes on Flavour of the Film; my Living inspired knickerbocker glories and my SpongeBob SquarePants Goofy Goober Sundaes included, this ice cream recipe is no-churn.
It’s the easiest way to make ice cream at home and means there are no unnecessary chemicals in sight. Plus, it means you have control over the level of sweetness and the balance of flavours! I’m here for it, friends.

Though the main characters of The Super Mario Bros. Movie are – you guessed it – Mario and Luigi, this recipe is for The Super Mario Bros. Movie Princess Peach inspired ice cream.
Yes, friends. Princess Peach is the inspiration for my latest ice cream recipe. She’s badass in the games and she’s badass in the movie.
The flavour of this ice cream is the character’s namesake: peach!
I love peaches. I reckon they’re my favourite fruit. A lovely seasonal natural numnum.
The tint of the ice cream is achieved through adding a few drops of pink food colouring. It’s not necessary, but draws from the feel of the character’s aesthetic. Her chosen colour is pink and I can absolutely relate.

To top the ice cream, I chose tinned peaches (affordable and accessible) with gummy mushrooms.
The mushroom candies are raspberry flavour and are also pink, but they are actually my nod to Mario’s aversion to mushrooms which is referenced consistently in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Friends, this is an ice cream recipe. You top it with whatever treats you want to. If they fit the Princess Peach vibe, that’s even better! See my Top Tips section below for toppings ideas.

Ice cream during the warmer season is pretty much the ultimate movie night treat. The fact that you can make it yourself with minimal ingredients and effort makes it even better.
You could also get an extra pair or two of smaller helping hands to whip up this The Super Mario Bros. Movie Princess Peach ice cream. Just remind them to be patient!

Top Tips
- If preferred, you can swap out the peach extract for peach juice, but know that the flavour may not be as potent.
- If you like your ice cream a bit sweeter, add the whole can of condensed milk instead of just half.
- If the peach flavouring isn’t your vibe, by all means swap it out for something like vanilla or lemon extract. Add the pink food colouring and serve with toppings that hit the brief (such as the ones I’ve listed next!).
- Tinned peaches and gummy mushrooms are my chosen toppings, but other ideas include pink and yellow Smarties or chocolate beans; rainbow belts (for rainbow road!), or Haribo gummy peaches.
- The ice cream needs at least 5 hours to freeze completely, but it’s best to leave it overnight.
- You can easily double this recipe for twice the amount of servings; perfect if you’re throwing a big The Super Mario Bros. Movie party.
- Get your ice cream out around 10 minutes before you are ready to serve it. As there are no soft-serve chemicals in this homemade ice cream, you’ll need to allow it to soften a little to make it easier to scoop!
The Recipe
Ingredients
The Super Mario Bros. Movie Princess Peach ice cream:
- 600ml [22.5 oz] double [heavy] cream
- ½ tin condensed milk
- Up to 5 drops extra strong peach extract
- Pink food colouring liquid or gel
Toppings:
- 1 can tinned peaches
- Candy/gummy mushrooms
Serves: 6+
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Freezing time: 5+ hours, preferably overnight
Decorating time: 5 minutes
Method
The Super Mario Bros. Movie Princess Peach Ice Cream:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cream and condensed milk until combined.
- Add a few drops of extra strong peach extract and a few drops of pink food colouring. Start small with the food colouring – you can add more bit by bit if you want a more intense pink tint!
- Using an electric whisk, whip the mixture until thick and smooth. It doesn’t need to be able to hold its shape as such, just nice and thick.
- Pour the ice cream mixture into a 2lb loaf tin (or any deep tin that can go in the freezer!) and smooth the surface over with a palette knife or the back of a spoon.
- Freeze until solid for at least 5 hours, preferably overnight.
- When ready to serve, leave the ice cream out for around 10 minutes to soften a little at room temperature, then scoop into your chosen dishes/glasses.
- Top with a couple of spoons of tinned peaches and a few gummy mushrooms. Alternatively, finish with your own chosen toppings!
My The Super Mario Bros. Movie Princess Peach ice cream is such an easy treat to whip up for a Super Mario Bros. party or movie night. It’s delicious as is or can be topped with lots of different numnums. This Princess Peach ice cream can be enjoyed for up to 3 months and doesn’t need to be covered in the freezer – just the tin or freezer-friendly container is all you need. Enjoy!
The Film
I’ve liked the Super Mario Bros. games for as long as I’ve been old enough to play them. When it was announced that a movie was being made based on the characters of this video game world, I was equally excited as I was apprehensive.
Video game adaptations have been touch and go in the past. It’s only more recently that they really started to crank up the quality. Titles like Sonic the Hedgehog and The Last of Us come to mind as being particularly good film & TV adaptations.

I was pleasantly surprised by The Super Mario Bros. Movie, more so with the visuals than anything else.
It really is some stunning animation work; the colour palette is incredibly satisfying.
If you’ve ever played Mario Kart Wii, you’ll understand why the visuals in the movie are important to me. The saturation of this Mario Kart edition is still seared into my eyeballs.

The plot of The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) is an origin story at its core.
We see Mario and Luigi discover the world that we, as gamers, know them to already be a part of. Going from their plumbing business to meeting our favourite characters in a world just a green tube trip away was a fun element of the film.
Some of the voice casting decisions were interesting and perhaps not the best, but that’s just my opinion. All I’ll say is… they cast the original Mario voice actor, but not in the role of Mario…
Nevertheless, talent like Keegan Michael Key, Charlie Day, Seth Rogen, Scott Menville and Jack Black work really well in their roles.
It’s a fun watch whether you have little ones of your own, or are simply a fan of the games. Pair it with my The Super Mario Bros. Movie Princess Peach ice cream and you’ve got yourself a wicked movie night combo.
P.S. Rainbow road got a really slick look in the movie, didn’t it?
