Harry Potter Party Snacks
The best parties and movie nights have themed snacks and food spreads. That’s a fact at this point, surely?
The wizarding world of Harry Potter provides so much scope for recreating magical dishes, as well as creating food inspired by the story. Just look at the Harry Potter section on this blog, and that’s just the beginning of my Harry Potter themed recipes – a collection which will continue to grow.

My Harry Potter snacks spread is designed to help you put together a magical food spread so good, your party guests will be taking pictures and asking you for the recipes.
This list is not exhaustive and will grow as my recipe collection will. You can also pick and choose based on your preferences, naturally!
I have listed instant and easy ways to start building your Harry Potter snacks board, both in the sweet and savoury sections, and have also included links to recipes for dishes and drinks that can really level up your Harry Potter movie night or party.
“Anything from the trolley, dears?”

Sweet Treats
Putting together the sweet side of a Harry Potter party snacks spread can be as easy as:
- adding jelly beans to stand in as Berty Bott’s Every Flavour Beans;
- melting chocolate and setting it in frog-shaped moulds,
- grabbing (or making) some chocolate mousse desserts and sitting shaped fondant or toffees in each one to recreate mandrakes,
- creating sweet nutty snitches by adding paper wings to Ferrero Rocher chocolates
- making sweet scones and serving them as Hagrid’s rock cakes (see my recipe for scones in my Bridgerton afternoon tea menu post)
However, if you want a little more of a sweet oomph to your Harry Potter party snacks, read on for more ideas and super fun recipes (& sign up to my monthly newsletter for a free recipe for Hermione’s sleeping draught cakes!).

Harry Potter Cake: Hagrid’s Cake for Harry
A celebration without some form of cake feels… sad. Especially at a Harry Potter themed party, when we all know a very famous cake from the first book/movie that can be easily recreated!
Hagrid’s cake for Harry is the ultimate birthday cake for any Potterhead.
It’s also a cake that can be personalised: swap out Harry’s name for your own or the birthday person’s name/nickname.
You can find my recipe for Hagrid’s cake for Harry here (or under the Harry Potter category on this blog).

Prophecy Orb Truffles
This is a particularly popular recipe of mine! Truffles are delicious and can be so easy to make.
These truffles don’t require any baking and are decorated to resemble the prophecy orbs as featured in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
You can find the recipe for them here.
Butterbeer Cheesecake
There are lots of really fun recipes out there put together by creative people and baking Potterheads who have come up with inspired recipes, like this one on A Night Owl for butterbeer flavoured cheesecake.
I mean… butterbeer cheesecake! Yes, please. A dessert that you can imagine being served at the Three Broomsticks.

Goblet of Fire Name Biscuits
Sorting hat cupcakes are fun, but what would your name look like once the Goblet of Fire has spat it out and chosen you as a Triwizard Tournament champion?
My easy spiced biscuit recipe gives you scope to shape and decorate these biscuits in honour of the story’s champions, and in your own way, too.
You can find the recipe for the biscuits here.

Aunt Petunia’s Pudding
Another classic Hazza P dessert and very popular recipe of mine. This one requires more hands-on time than some of the other recipes I’ve included in my Harry Potter party snacks guide, but if you’re going all in, you need Aunt Petunia’s floating pudding.
A meringue base with plenty of whipped cream and fruit decorations. Just make sure all house elves are away from the room before serving.
You can find the recipe here.
Treacle Tart
Though this is Harry’s favourite dessert – as told in the books – treacle tart doesn’t feature in the movies. At least not in a significant way.
Nevertheless, it’s another dessert option that hits the brief of this Harry Potter party snacks guide!
There are lots of great recipes for treacle tart as it’s a traditional pud, but here’s one on Bigger Bolder Baking that does the trick.

Puff Pastry Liquid Luck Bottles
Need a little luck?
Puff pastry can make sweet treats or savoury snacks, but in this case, it makes a great bottle of liquid luck. Or a set of bottles, actually.
These pineapple filled treats are so quick and easy to make. You can find the recipe here.

Savoury Nibbles
The easiest way to get some savoury numnums into your Harry Potter party snacks spread is to:
- choose things like pretzel sticks or breadsticks as wands;
- coned shaped potato snacks to serve as claws or mini versions of the sorting hat,
- add falafel balls with paper wings stuck in them and serve as a collection of quidditch snitches,
- make cheese scones and serving them as Hagrid’s rock cakes
However, if you really want to go all in with the savoury snacks in your Harry Potter party snacks spread, you’ll find ideas and recipes that are both delicious and on theme below.

Professor McGonagall’s Sandwiches
A sandwich platter is one of the best ways to feed many people at a party (even if it’s a party of one!).
As I said in my Bridgerton inspired afternoon tea post (linked above), finger sandwiches can be entirely customised to suit your personal preferences.
You can make them purely to cater to the tastes of those attending to your party (yourself included), or you can do traditional British fillings like ham and mustard; egg and cress, or cheese and pickle.
Mrs. Weasley is also known for her sandwiches, like her bacon sarnies, so they hit the brief twice over.
The Starving Chef has a dedicated recipe for Professor McGonagall’s sandwich platter which gives you plenty of inspiration and guidance.

Professor Sprout’s Greenhouse Goodies
Balance is the key to everything, including what we eat. Whilst I’m all for having treats during movie nights, movie marathons, and themed parties, I gotta get some veggies in there somewhere.
So, choose your favourite veggies and salad bits, and plate them up under “Professor Sprout’s Greenhouse Goodies”.
If you’re doing some mandrake desserts as I suggested in the Sweet Treats section, they could join the veggies in Prof’s greenhouse!

Savoury Pumpkin Pasties
Sure, you can have sweet pumpkin pasties if you fancy. But, if savoury snacks are more your speed, a savoury pumpkin pasty is a warming and hearty dish that makes a great addition to your Harry Potter party snacks spread.
This recipe on Rhubarb and Lavender is just the ticket for a savoury pumpkin pasty. Especially on a chilly autumn evening!

Pizza Pocket Howlers
Pizza? At a party? Yes. Always yes.
Make your pizza dish Harry Potter themed by turning it into pocket sized howlers.
Pizza Pocket Howlers Recipe:
- Get some ready made pizza dough or puff pastry.
- Cut into smaller squares around envelope size. Leave some dough/pastry free and shape into a pair of lips for each pizza pocket howler.
- Spread tomato sauce on each square (leaving a border around the whole square free of sauce).
- Sprinkle your chosen cheese and pizza fillings in the centre of each one, being mindful not to over-fill.
- Glaze the sauce-free border with egg and fold all four corners in like an envelope. Add a pair of lips to each one and secure to the centre of the envelope using a touch of egg wash.
- Use a spatula to lift each one onto a lined baking tray and bake according to the dough/pastry packet instructions.
- Leave to cool for a few moments before serving as they will be very hot! Alternatively, leave to cool and store in an airtight container in the fridge and serve cold.

Drinks
I always say you’ve got to stay hydrated, friends. This Harry Potter party snacks guide is no exception to that rule.
Whether you’re sticking with the usual: water, tea, soft drinks and the like, or looking for beverages with a little more magic, here are some other ideas that are easy and hit the Hazza P brief:
- Hot chocolate. I’m talkin’ about the works: marshmallows, whipped cream, a chocolate frog;
- Coconut water to serve as felix felicis
- A smoothie with fruit, chia seeds, and a little cocoa powder blended to serve as Hermione’s polyjuice potion as seen in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Below are recipes for the classic Hazza P drinks we all know, plus one that I think is particularly fun!

Butterbeer
You may know that there are more than enough butterbeer recipes around. I still remember the butterbeer I had at the Warner Bros. Harry Potter studio tour (and thinking about it right this second has made me want to go back for more… again).
Feel free to choose your pick of the crop, but I reckon a kid-friendly one like this recipe on Kids Activities Blog is the ticket.
Butterbeer doesn’t have to be served in a tankard or glass, but it makes it more fun and arguably tastier if it is.

Gillyweed Water
Gillyweed appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, when Neville provided it to Harry as a way to help him breathe during the second task of the Triwizard Tournament.
It’s not a drink in its natural form, but some very creative people have come up with their own version of “gillyweed water”.
Recipes across the web are available to use as guidance and inspiration for such a beverage, including this one on An Edible Mosaic. It uses fresh ingredients to create a refreshing beverage.

Pumpkin Juice
A classic Hazza P drink that is a constant throughout the wizarding world.
A copycat Wizard World recipe for pumpkin juice, like this one on InLiterature, is just the ticket, I’d say.

Polyjuice Potion
Like with the other drinks in this Harry Potter party snacks guide, there are lots of creative recipes out there to help you create your own version of polyjuice potion, but when it comes to drinks, less fuss means more flavour.
Recipes like this one on Zen and Honey is a fruit based beverage that requires little effort.
Leveling Up Your Harry Potter Party
As you can see from my Harry Potter party snacks guide, you can go with a simpler approach for your food spread and still keep it on theme, or you can get a little more hands on and make some really great Harry Potter inspired dishes, too.
Whether you’re throwing a Harry Potter themed party or movie night, don’t neglect the snacks! They can be just as magical, despite having muggle beginnings.
Which Harry Potter book/movie is your favourite and what snacks would you pair with it?
