According to myth, ambrosia was designed for long journeys and quests where the threat of injury was pretty much guaranteed. Naturally, this godly little numnum features in the Percy Jackson stories. My Percy Jackson ambrosia recipe is so simple and absolutely customisable, making it a perfect addition to a Percy Jackson themed party, or even as a snack whilst on a quest of your own. A single bite is all you need.

The Bake
My Percy Jackson blue chocolate chip cookie recipe is so popular, I knew I couldn’t stop with just the one PJO inspired treat. Thanks to the brilliant mind of Rick Riordan, there are ample amounts of fictional food that I can recreate within his world of Greek demigods, all inspired by his timeless storytelling.
Naturally, more blue food recipes are in the works for Flavour of the Film! But, next up in my quest to recreate the food of the PJO world are Percy Jackson ambrosia bars.

As mentioned in the introduction, ambrosia is a treat that features across the myths of Ancient Greece. Its primary use was to heal the wounded after battle, and has ties to immortality as it’s often referred to as the “food of the gods”.
In the world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, ambrosia is also used in the same way.
Ambrosia salad is also a Greek dish typically made with ingredients like fruit, marshmallows and whipped cream.

What I love about ambrosia in Rick Riordan’s stories is that the foodstuff itself changes flavour based on the person eating it.
It tastes of something that comforts them, giving new dimensions to this mythical numnum. On one occasion that Percy consumed ambrosia, it tasted of fudgy brownies to him. When Annabeth ate some, she tasted the homemade popcorn she ate while watching movies with her Dad.
With this in mind, I’ve created this recipe with a basic (but still tasty!) base so that you are free to add various flavours and toppings to create your own comfort-focused Percy Jackson inspired ambrosia!
*Healing powers not included* – sorry, friends!

Percy Jackson ambrosia is said to be served in bar form, so the base of my ambrosia recipe is a simple Rice Krispie treat with butter and marshmallow.
Rice Krispie treats are quick and simple to make, which is ideal for something like ambrosia. They’re sturdy and light therefore easy to pack and travel with.
Plus, there’s the marshmallow connection to ambrosia salad!
The flavours/toppings are entirely up to you! I opted for white chocolate, desiccated coconut and blue chocolate beans in my Percy Jackson ambrosia bars. I wanted to add a hint of blue in mine because… well, Percy Jackson loves blue food.

See my Top Tips section below for more flavour ideas!
Need another bonus? These Percy Jackson ambrosia bars are great to make with kids! The process can be a little sticky, so just be sure to grease hands as needed – or make sure an adult carries out the slightly messier steps.

Top Tips
- Vegan marshmallows can be bought online and, along with vegan butter, can make this ambrosia treat entirely veggie friendly! Otherwise, feel free to use marshmallows of your choice as per this recipe.
- The making of these Percy Jackson ambrosia bars can get messy as the mixture is sticky. Similarly to my SpongeBob SquarePants marble cake recipe, I recommend greasing your spoon/spatula and later your hands with a flavourless oil i.e. vegetable or with a little butter. This just prevents the RKT mixture from sticking to everything!
- Other ideas for flavours and toppings are caramel drizzled on the top; white chocolate chips & freeze dried raspberries/strawberries, desiccated coconut and glace cherries, melted dark chocolate and blueberries (a little natural blue!), flaked almonds and raspberry jam, candied fruit peel, candied pineapple.
These Percy Jackson ambrosia bars are so easy to make, they are perfect for any Percy Jackson themed party or quest! The simplicity of this Percy Jackson ambrosia recipe also means it’s a great treat to make with younger PJO fans. Enjoy!
Happy baking, happy eating!
The Recipe
Ingredients
Percy Jackson ambrosia bars:
- 30g [1 oz] unsalted butter
- 220g [4 ½ cups] mini white marshmallows
- 170g [around 3 ½ cups] Rice Krispies
- 50g [1.75 oz] white chocolate
Toppings (or swap out for your favourites!):
- Blue chocolate beans
- A sprinkle of desiccated coconut
- Edible gold glitter optional
Serves: 16
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Setting time: 2+ hours
Decorating time: 10 minutes
Method
Percy Jackson ambrosia:
- Line a 9×9 square tin with greaseproof paper/baking parchment and set aside. If your marshmallows are bigger than a mini size, roughly chop them up so they melt more easily.
- In a heavy duty saucepan, melt the butter completely over a low heat, stirring regularly.
- Grease a large spoon then pour in the marshmallows and stir continuously with the greased spoon until melted, keeping the heat low. It may be a little lumpy to begin with but keep stirring and beat a little if necessary to smoothen.
- Pour in the Rice Krispies and fold them in until completely incorporated.
- Pour the mixture into your lined tin. Grease your hands with a little butter or flavourless oil (i.e. vegetable) and press the mixture into the tin evenly with your hands, making sure to get into the corners. Using your hands is the easiest way to do this!
- Allow the mixture to set for at least 2 hours. You can do this at room temperature or, for a slightly less chewy texture, in the fridge.
- Once set, peel the greaseproof paper/baking parchment from your ambrosia. Melt the white chocolate then drizzle over the surface of your ambrosia mixture. Finish with the blue chocolate decorations and coconut, then a few sprays of edible gold glitter. Alternatively, top with your own favourite toppings!
- If needed, chill your Percy Jackson ambrosia in the fridge for a few minutes to set any melted chocolate decoration.
- Using a large serrated knife, chop the ambrosia into bars (4 rows across, 4 down) for 16 pieces, or into whatever even sized bars you prefer.
My homemade Percy Jackson ambrosia bars make a deliciously healing treat for any Percy Jackson themed party or your very own demigod quest. If kept in an airtight container, these ambrosia bars will last for 1+ week. Enjoy!
The TV Show
Seeing as I’ve already gone into quite a bit of detail in this section of my Percy Jackson blue cookies post, I’ll simply use this space to say how much I’m looking forward to the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
It’s already a far more faithful adaptation of the books than the movies were, which I love to see.

Based on the first season’s loyalty to the original text, I’m very much looking forward to how they approach the story in the next few seasons. Thankfully, the show has been renewed for multiple more seasons, so that’s something to look forward to!
Fingers crossed for the food in the books making many appearances in the TV series.
